There is absolutely no doubt that The International Highline Meeting festival seems like one of the coolest festivals I’ve ever heard of, but it also might be one of the most frightening.
Turns out attendees of the festival spend most of their time strung up on tightropes sprawled across the Italian Alps in Monte Piana. If that doesn’t blow your mind, I’m not sure what will.
These adventurous folk call themselves “slackers,” referring to the slacklines they balance themselves on. One distinguishing feature of this extreme sport is that the rope has a slightly flattened shaped and has slack, meaning that it can move side-to-side or bounce.
Besides the fact that these awesome slackers spend a significant part of their days (and nights) on slacklines suspended several hundred feet above the Italian dolomite Alps, this fabulous gathering has all the elements of a normal festival – a kitchen, a bar (doing this drunk might seem rather stupid-I’m ignoring the inner daredevil inside of me here) and killer musical jam sessions. Bonus points for those looking to attend a Yoga workshop because they have that as well!
